Throwing good $ after bad - TV

No, not TV as in Tow Vehicle. TV as in Oprah.

So, I bought an Insignia 15" LCD flat screen which delivers what can best be described as a modest image. And, then I bought a wall mount which I still haven't attached to the trailer, or to the TV for that matter. And, I don't have an antennae, but I do have a rather long roll of coax cable. Given all that, I just had to buy a 7" Toshiba portable DVD player so I would have the complete package.

Tonight, instead of watching TV, I spent the evening studying the manuals, trying to figure out how to connect the DVD player to the TV (not the tow vehicle ) and get the 4:3 ratio that the TV requires from the 16:9 player.

This weekend I will sit in the Escape 17 for an afternoon, trying to figure out how and where to situate the various devices, asking myself, all the while, why?

So, to answer that question, I went to the National Film Board of Canada site and ordered copies of Bill Mason's canoe videos, Waterwalker and his Path of the Paddle series ( instructional videos ).

I really do need to go camping to stop all this nonsense.

Yes, that cold air is getting to you Glen.  We are in Guatemala right now (on a mission trip).  Working in the jungle on the North shore (Atlantic side), the temps were pushing the upper 90's (F) with lots of humidity!!!  Whoa!!  Now, we are staying with our daughter and family, in the interior, and she's complaining of the cold (it's about 70 degrees (F) ).  Anyone want to come visit???

I had the Path of the Paddle series and Waterwalker on VHS so I'm just replacing media.

Path of the Paddle is excellent instruction and Waterwalker just makes you want to get out there.

He made some great documentaries for NFB.

There is nothing more satisfying than knowing how to paddle a canoe.

Spent a good part of the afternoon sitting in the trailer with my audio/visual toys.

It didn't take long to realize that wall-mounting my 15" television to the side of the fridge compartment was going to result in a serious incursion into living space. As in, I would probably bash my head on the TV several times during the night. It wouldn't be all that pretty to look at either.

I set up the tiny 7" DVD player on the folding shelf next to the sink and watched enough of a movie to realize that 7" was big enough. If not, I've got the 15" TV stored in the wardrobe cupboard and I can bring it out when necessary. I'm imagining sitting around a campfire with fellow campers and watching Bill Mason's "Waterwalker".

All the while, I was listing to olde-time country music on my Sirius Executive speaker system. Either I was getting a good satellite signal through the wall of the trailer, or I was picking it up via wireless internet. There is a way to tell, but that would require me to read the manual.

I was going to get an exterior DC outlet installed, but I've got DC extension cords so I can just run cable out the door or a window. I can plug in my inverter and plug two AC's into it, giving me all sorts of options ( both the TV and DVD player run on DC, or with AC to DC converters ).

And, Canada won the hockey game.
