With the prospect of reasonable weather my wife and I took Ladybug on her maiden voyage to Bay View State Park near Anacortes, Washington, just a few hours drive from Vancouver. Bay View State Park has some nice campsites with power and water, close to shopping in nearby Burlington and Mount Vernon, and interesting nature walks. Our Escape 13 performed wonderfully!

Here are a few pictures.

Wow!  That maiden voyage looks like a lot of fun!  We have a 'maiden voyage' coming up in the third week of April.  I am so excited!
I like your Ladybug!!!

Thank you, Texscapees. Here is another picture of a bee amongst flowers I took at the Sequim Washington Lavender Festival last year:

Dan:

Yes, it was 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) on Friday at Bay View, and the grass had just been cut.

Ian and I are leaving on the 20th for the south for 6 weeks.  We dug the snow out from in front of the camper last week so that we could take Houdini to get the wheel bearings re-packed and the brakes adjusted after a long winter under the new shelter we built last fall.  Now we are packing and getting excited to get out there.  Our first stop is near Winchester VA, then on to points south - eventually as far as Ocala Florida.  So, Hokie Esacape, we hope you will have a bit less snow by then!  The last storm here in Southern Vermont was heavy and wet and like shoveling concrete!
Isn't it fun to be closer to getting back to a camping reality?!  Love those Ladybug photos.  They are beautiful.
Happy Spring everyone.

I've added a few shots of daffodils. They are out now in La Conner Washington and on the Bay View-Edison Highway that goes past Bay View State Park.

Hi Jenny and Ian,
Sounds divine to be heading South for SIX weeks!  Sounds like you are heading down I-81 through the Shenandoah Valley (one of the prettiest places around).  It starts in Winchester, and ends about Roanoke, but the road all the way to Bristol, TN is great (except the Semi's, they're a pain).  Are you stopping along the way, lots of great things to see as you work your way South.  If you'd like some suggestions, let me know.  Wish we could follow you : - )
I'll speak to the snow maker and ask for mercy on you concerning the winter precip.  It's beautiful here now!  Will there be any more of that stuff?  Well, who snows???

Thanks guys.  We are stopping near Winchester to visit Ian's sister then heading down to Ocala FL.  We camp in National Forests because they are so cheap with the geezer pass, so have bookmarked a number of possibilities.  We are trying to keep this trip loose without too many deadlines, so it's all going to be a surprise!  We might be going to Williamsburg on the way back, then to Assateague.  The plan is to find some migrating birds and other wildlife.
Wish we could meet you Hokie Escape and Al.  It's always fun to meet up with other Escapees.  Isn't it great that there are getting to be so many more of us on this side of the planet!?  Maybe sometime - one of these years? - we can organize a rally together?

Well, 2 things I'd definitely recommend after Winchester.
- Luray Caverns (right off I-81):  Maybe the most beautiful caverns in the world
- Blue Ridge Parkway:  Get on where I-64 crosses it close to Waynesboro, and get off at Rt460 before Roanoke.  Just a beautiful section, and nice days drive.  You can camp at Peaks of Otter campground (on the Parkway, no hookups but they have a dump), take a trip up Sharp Top Mtn, and then on to where ever.  But, I'll warn you, the Parkway is so beautiful, you'll probably want to keep on, keeping on : - )  We're about 1 hour from the Roanoke exit from the Parkway.

We were both just talking about that.  If only it wasn't so far or we'd be at the rally for sure!  You guys will have so much fun.  We will be thinking about you all!
